I don't care if he is a vampire- we know he's the furthest thing from a regular vampire, and his messed-up transformation seems to have allowed for him to maintain some of his mortality (he doesn't need blood to survive, the sunlight has no effect on him, etc).
So, what do you think? If he ever died in his current life, do you think he would be able to seamlessly pass on... you know, in the mortal sense? Or would he just become ash or dust?

Welcome Shy! ;D Sometimes Duckula reminds me to a dhampir, because he has some vampire powers, like the power of mist, the way he appears in puff of smoke, and don't need blood to survive. Also, I don't have any evidence about sunlight actually destroying a vampire in folklore. About the soul, I'm afraid but if there is no reflection in a mirror, there is no soul The disastrous ritual that brought him back to life, could allow him to have some conscience, personality and some will of his own hence he does not succumb to Igor's manipulation attempts, but no mirror reflection, no soul, at least not the concept of the soul a mortal would have. That is one of the tragic characteristics of being a vampire, like it was portrayed in Nosferatu (1979) for example, an undead that "lives" an almost eternal life of evil doings, lost the ability to taste food, the weather, emotions, the ability to love, and if you had mortal friends, you see them die... ...And while being a vampire may have many advantages, vampirism is a curse at the end in my opinion.

I've never understood that "no soul, no reflection" thing. What about things that were never even alive, to begin with? You know, any inanimate object. They certainly have no soul, no spark of life (well, plant-life is alive, but still inanimate), yet they show up in mirrors.
What about corpses, which is what a vampire essentially is, or any dead body-part? Not trying to get morbid here, but that would show up in a mirror.
I know this is getting away from my original argument, but I have just never understood that concept. Ghosts, I can understand not having a reflection, because they have no real form or substance... and to me, that is the defining point of whether or not something will show up in a mirror. You could, of course, use the same argument for capturing something on film or camera.

Because mirrors reflect the physical world and vampires are undead so they are now something of the other world or perhaps caught between two worlds. Besides, one could said that vampires should have a soul because they have conscience of the world, but the original vampires from Europe were just zombie-like creatures with no conscience at all. And yes, do not worry, a vampire is a corpse so at least some parts should have a reflection. Maybe mirror superstition only applies to humans who used to have a soul. I'm going to check this out better, because I do remember that in other cultures, vampires had a reflection. Edit: OK, now this is getting complicated, because there are too many vampire types on folklore, depending of the time in history and the country. Book on my hands reads, well I will try to translate: "vampire phenomenon can be study in two ways in general, that also seems to mix in folklore: 1. Vampire as a ghost, from a deceased one or from a casting wizard, an immaterial being that is aggressive and attacks the living people... ... 2. The vampire as a walking corpse, a soulless body that cannot rest and has to feed on the living, sometimes the corpse was brought back from its grave by an evil wizard to work under the sorcerer's commands." In the first case, the vampire is not-corporeal but a dark soul indeed! In the second case we have that "no soul-no reflection" belief. One thing I found out is that the idea of "no soul, no reflection" began since the first mirrors of glass were made in Rome. Since then, there are superstitions like that a mirror can reflect a human's soul, that is also why broking a mirror is not recommended. I will do further research on this. However, I can conclude at the moment that the "mirror-soul" applies to humans (avians in Duckula's world), and that the no reflection-thing is an allegoric way to state that a vampire is just a walking carcass with no soul. At least, some vampires from folklore used to be that way, unlike the vampire in literature or movies which can make an interesting yet different conception of the vampire. If this is about folklore, Duckula used to have a soul, when he was just a mortal. Now, about physics: a reflection would be the return of light after striking a surface, a change in direction of a wave at an interface between two different objects. Vampires can do that? I think vampires defy laws of physics, so we have here another explanation on why vampires, unfortunately, do not exist. BTW, I believe plants can move indeed. Note: Brainy Smurf was nerding here. I know, shame on me.

Duckula is good, though, not evil. I realize, in reality, one's moral beliefs have nothing to do with their soul... but I just hate to picture our poor Duckyboos forced to walk the earth forever (esp. in his current reincarnation), never to rest in peace. But because he has no soul, because he is the living dead, he is forced to spend eternity in a kind of limbo- no peace, no rest, no afterlife (heaven). It's just so unfair, you know? That's the worst kind of torture I can imagine, almost worse than hell.

I got inspired by this topic you made Shy, I want to share this idea I had while listening to this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eil9Dw2flcE&feature=related Is Dido's song Life for Rent. Also I made a storyline-like thing to go with the lyrics, because it fits the topic. EDIT: moved it to the Fanfiction Section, thank you very much girls!

Duckula and horcruxes, what intriguing idea! Shy, I have somewhere an old edition of B. Stoker's Dracula, which introduction explains a theory on reflections...I'll check it and report here as soon as I find the book!

You know what I can see? Kinda going into deep territory here, but if Duckula were to ever get killed, then there's a very good chance he might 'earn' a soul from whatever Powers That Be. After all, he definitely deserves such freedom and peace... you know, to be able to cross over. Because, despite the results of his reincarnation-gone-wrong, Duckula still *chooses* to live the kind of life he does, clean and innocent.

As sad as it may be, Duckyboos unfortunately doesn't have a soul as he doesn't have a reflection. It's also disheartening as well since he's not a blood-sucking fiend of a vampire like his relatives...

However, thinking about it, he could take it all on his favour, like being useful as a dhampir! He is not a dhampir, but our dear Count is pretty close to it, perhaps?
