It was goood to have Ruby Wax doing a 'straight' character for a change I thought. I like how Miss Von Boodle was so passionate about her living too. As for the title card - it's not THAT scary! The opeing is nice and sinister too. I like how Igor is kind of mischievous rather than evil at tricking Duckula.
IGOR: I bet he hasn't got one. DUCKULA: I bet I have! IGOR: Have not. DUCKULA: Have!
(love that little childish bit)

Eh, don't mind me, I'm just not a big fan of blood - it was just completely unexpected and when it dripped down, it made me wince. But yes, I am used to it now. I thought the lady was called Bombootle! Gosh, I must be slipping... I loved the Count's rhyme in that episode - also, I liked all his fussing over Fluffykins at the start. Although it seems childish it's actually quite mature because he's caring for another creature and not just himself; it also shows his nice-guy persona. There's something sweet about the way he sits Fluffkins on his lap to share his biscuits - yet again, also quite mature! You know?

When he spills the bowl of blood in 'The Count & the Pauper' - grisssly. What sweet noises Fang/Fluffykins made! He was so cute.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion of course, but for the most part I'm pretty surprised by what people here consider to be the worst episodes. Beau Duckula, Jungle Duck, Igor's Busy Day? Great episodes even by Duckula's lofty standards. The Lost Valley? One of the very best IMO. And I can hardly believe there are fans out there who don't like The Vampire Strikes Back! Not only one of the best episodes, but I would imagine one of the best remembered episodes among the general public. The Planet Cute bunnies are supposed to be horrifying in their saccharine cuteness, and they're supposed to remind you of the Care Bears, that's the gag.
No disrespect intended of course, I'm not saying anyone is "wrong" and I'm "right", but some of these choices did really surprise me.
Unreal Estate is one of my favourite episodes too but I can't really deny that the animation is poor. In some ways that adds to the charm, but more of that later.
Maybe I'm incapable of being objective about Duckula but I pretty much agree with Gaston when he says that "there are no dud episodes" (although I disagree with him that Duck Ahoy is one of the weaker ones; that's another of my faves). Of course there are weaker episodes, but I still wouldn't really consider them duds. For what it's worth I agree with the suggestion that The Zombie Awakes is one of the weaker ones. As for the weakest, I've always felt Mysteries of the Wax Museum was a little off. Dr. Matrix is a little annoying for one thing. It's also strangely low on jokes. That combined with the "cool" robot plot always made me wonder if they were perhaps trying to court the kids who were more interested in the "action" cartoons that were so prominent at the time.
At first I was also a little surprised that there was no "best episode(s)" thread to accompany this, but when I realised how difficult it would be for me to even narrow it down to a Top 10 I perhaps became less surprised.

Ah, thanks for that. Although I don't think I'll bump it as like I said I really can't choose. Interesting reading nonetheless.

I think I tend to dislike the episodes from the final season the most. By that time, they seemed to be losing that certain something that made the Duckula episodes, I don't know... magical? They also seemed to forget that Duckula is a vampire in those episodes... Not to mention he isn't as sweet in them. More self-centered, imho. I REALLY CANNOT STAND the stupid Egg episodes, however. Absolutely my two least favorite.

I don't like the Egg either. Surely there's got to be a serious underlying health problem if he never hatched. :/

Yeah, he's just really annoying, imho. Give me Goosewing any day over him. Those episodes also make it feel like it's... I don't know. Inspector Gadget or something. And I was never a huge fan of that one.
He does remind me of Shelton from the old Garfield and Friends cartoon though, lol.

It's such a shame the episodes really was quite poor back then. Only a couple of episodes were really good. I also had to admit that Duckula wasn't the lovable child-like character we loved in the first two seasons, but a real brat one wishes would just shut up in all means necessary. I REALLY CANNOT STAND the stupid Egg episodes, however. Absolutely my two least favorite. I agree, the Egg episodes were poorly done. I'm so glad the zombie only had a couple of episodes.

That's a good point, Steffie -- I guess we should just be glad we only got two of those episodes, instead of more. XD

Once more, allow me to say that I'm so glad they did not include Von Goosewing in "Venice A Duck Not" episode! Try to imagine VG working for the Egg!

I think the Venice episode is decent, not one of the best but decent. I particularly like Igor's line about "an Italian family of Spanish origin" and Duckula repeatedly forgetting the name of the diamond (eye of the borgias?) and calling it things like "nose of the bunglers". But I am glad the Egg was only used twice.
