Hmm, this may be looking a little too deep (as I am certainly prone to doing) or it could just be coincidental. However!
Is it just me or does it seem like there should be some sort of correlation between 'Rheinfeld' and 'Renfield'? I know the two characters are nothing at all alike, but the similarity of their name makes me wonder.
There again, I myself finding Renfield from the original B. Stokers Dracula to be most interesting, I have always sort of searched for a 'Renfield' type character in Duckula. Unfortunately I have yet to find one, but hey, I can have nearly baseless ideas about existing ones if I like, right? Just kidding.
But yeah. The similarity of their names caught me ages ago, and I was wondering if anyone else had any say-so on the matter.

I noted the similarity in the names but I think that's where the connection ends. Inspector Migraine is a pun on Inspector Maigret for example and Jives is a pun on Jeeves.

Indeed, but as those two have no particular bearing on the original Dracula story, I didn't quite count them the same way. Ah well These things make for a bit of conversation every now and then, kind of shake things up here and there.

I find quite curious that both characters had similar names, but they are so different... Except if you count they are mad...
Juno: have you ever read Dracula the novel? Reinfield plays a specific key role, and Rheinfeld was the one who first made Gosling to visit Transylvania...

I thought I'd bring this thread back, because I'm currently reading the book for the first time and wanted to add my two cents. It seems to me that Rheinfeld is a combination of Johnathan Harker, Dr. Seward, and Renfield, really. The name is obviously a nod to Renfield, but the character is the one to alert Gosling to the presence of the vampire, as what happens with Seward contacting Hellsing. But he also was the one to travel to Translyvania and have an encounter with the Count himself, as Harker did. The case for him also being Renfield, I think, only really comes from the name and the fact that Seward was the one who introduces him into the story. He also makes a comment about being considered crazy, but that could be something anyone would feel. It's also fairly common for the character of Renfield to be combined with other characters in other adaptions of the book. As far as a character who is more like the character himself, I think Igor might actually be a close match, though obviously not an exact parallel. Actually, maybe the combination of Igor and Nanny is more like it, though I'm convinced Nanny is just there because the thought of a line of vicious vampires having her around is pretty funny.

Oooh, very nicely noted, Wednesday, I hadn't considered Harker and Seward! Good point, that. I too thought of the Igor/Renfield thing, and as you said, far from a parallel. Paticularly since he's the one who basically controls everything in the castle He's more of a vampire than the Duckula clan combined, lol

Thanks! I also meant to point out what a great adaption/tribute to the original novel that episode is. I never realized it until after I started reading it, heh. But everything right down to the fact that diaries are used to tell the story of the past. It's great!
