This something I have been wondering about for a long time, which I have been planning for an upcoming fic:
Duckula is, techically, still a vampire... although he is against his own kind, and abhors the idea of blood, violence, evil-doing, and any/all other such activities, and feeds on vegetables as his main diet instead, he is still a vampire; he has no reflection, he cannot show up in a photograpgh, and he has the ability to physcially teleport himself.
But my question is this- since he is, still, a vampire- just not a typical vampire, as far as his nature and habbits are concerned- do you think that, deep, deep down, his old ways could still somehow be a part of him, however distant? Do you think he is still, in some distant way, a traditional vampire? Do you believe he still has vampiric instincts, that quite possibly he is not even aware of, that have been burried deep inside of him since his most recent reincarnation to the point where they remain passive, even deceptively non-existant?
I like to think this is the case, because it's just such a fascinating concept. I particularly like to think that Duckula cannot bear to think on who/what he used to be, as the very thought fills him with horror and guilt, so he doesn't even like to think of himself as a vampire, that he is a changed duck altogether. I also like to think that this is a huge factor is in his desire to achieve fame and fortune, and travel all over the world in search of action, fun, adventure, and excitement... we do know that Duckula does just want a normal life, and is also very ambitious and likes to follow his dreams and goals, like any normal human (well, more or less human, give or take a feather, lol), any mortal being... which he knows he is not, though he hates to think on that. I think it is deeper than that... I think it not only makes him feel "human", but it also helps takes his mind off the confusion he feels over what/who he truly is, his true place in the world, his destiny, and also the pain and guilt he suffers- though he never mentions it, and tries not to even think about it- over all the crimes he has committed in the past centuries.
I also would like to imagine that Duckula might be able to call upon his innate vampire if it it truly became necesarry- for example, if he really were in a life-threatening situation, or felt scared or angry enough, or somebody he cared about was in danger (these are all things have happened to him in several eps, more or less- but at its most basic level, since it IS a cartoon, lol), but what if the situation was so intense that he just snapped, and let loose his inner vampire... say sprouted fangs, red eyes, turned into a snarling, vicious creature, with the ability to fight and attack, including that almost supernatural strength of a vampire... think of how Angel, Spike, and other vampires in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel universe 'transform' at will. And eventually, although it would be a huge shock to him at first, he would still retain his personality no less at all times, but could at the same time change at any time he felt he needed to, to control that change at will. And while he would be in 'vampire-mode', he would not be evil- he would be exactly the same- but he would MEAN BUSINESS. I also don't think he would actually kill anybody; he would certainly have no desire to kill, unless it became ABSOLUTELY necesary, but mainly to frighten those who pose a threat to him, or even to physically defend himself (and Nanny and Igor, sure, though I doubt that would be necessary, esp with Nanny, lol).
I dunno, can you picture it? It's something I'm certainly fascinated with!
