It is almost 20 years that I want to visit Transylvania…from the first time I saw Duckula on TV and got that insane passion for everything relates with vampires…
Last year, before we decided to go to London, my friend and I went to a travel agency and asked about going to Transylvania…the girl at the desk was very kind and patient, and kindly and patiently discouraged us proposing instead Ibiza, Formentera, Barcelona (the typical holiday sites for Italian tourists). We are not the typical ones, we like adventure and experiences in new places, and also a bit of culture (only a bit!). We insisted that we have sea, sun discos and boys also near home, and we did not see the necessity to spend money to do abroad what we already did here.
So she started denigrate the country in which Transylvania, is, Romania. Romania is a eastern Europe country with lots of problems, poor people, criminality, inexistent public transport (necessity to rent a car!), glime, and so on. Two girls alone should never adventure in a place like that!!! The only safe way to visit the country is an organized granny-style travel, all by bus (two days and nights in a bus in my opinion are a suicide!) and with a appropriate escort who takes you everywhere, even at the toilet…no thanks. We also asked to some male friends if they liked the idea to come with us; it is cool to say: “I’ve been in Transylvania”, or not? They limited to look at us as fool beings and propose instead the trio Ibiza/Formentera/Barcelona per andare a cucco (it means to get as many girls as you can).
So we went to London (and had a great time there). But I still have the desire to see the places in which real Dracula lived! Two years ago a book came out, “The historian” by E. Kostova: it is a novel in which the characters travel around all Europe to find the right location of Dracula’s tomb; this is the type of journey I wish! Maybe in some other years….
