What he failed to inform me is that his band has changed it's name since the work was underway! That is not my fault. He says he'll send me th picture back. This is doubly annoying because despite a lot of advertising, I hardly get any commissions anyway.

You're kidding. That's just bull****. What a waste of time that was for you. That really makes me angry. Hopefully, people will study your guidelines from now on, before requesting a pic from you. It also makes me angry that you hardly ever get any business or recognition. I wish there was something I could do to help, I really do.

I suggested returning the picture WITH the payment and I'd repaint the band's name. The response was simply 'cool'. I mean is that a yes or a no or what? RRRRRRRRGGGGGHHH!!!

I have no words... He did not find you in the yellow pages, right? I understood he already knows you: this is even worse!! I don't love ebay so much, but the best thing there is that everyone fears negative feedbacks and behaves right. Instead, in private transactions, you only have to hope!

That Yellow Pages ad seems to have been wasted money so far. No-one appreciates cartoons. Although I have got a commission to draw 40 cartoon pig-related pictures for a humorous poetry book to be (hopefully) published soon. The man involved is from Chesterfield and posted the poems to me within a day, so at least he knows how to behave.
I may put my comics on eBay serenity, as I'm hardly getting any orders. I never intended to make a profit on them, but it's circulation that's the problem.

I don't think that no one likes cartoons; maybe people's taste became worse in later years: the majority wants the Simpsons, the Griffins, South Park, Itchy&Scratchy and so on. Nowadays I can't find on TV the good old series as the Wacky races or the great anime of the 80s (don't hate me, I've grown with Lupin III and Lady Oscar-The rose of Versailles, and THESE were masterpieces, not Pokemon). There are two choices: 1. the childish, fulsome, teletubbies cartoon made for children; 2. the satirical adult cartoon. The middle way does not exist. For distribution, I don't know if you have an editor or not; he should care about it. All I can say is that in my town, Padova, there are 2 comic-shops, and they sell also fanzine or other comics not registered (burocracy!) and so that cannot be sold normally in newsstands. I know a boy who began in this way... I want a copy of the book with pigs!

Don't get me started on Itchy & Scratchy! They're not even a real cartoon! It's difficult as I'm financing the whole thing myself (so obviously I need to make SOME of my money back, not all) and it's me who has to physically go round places and distribute the magazines and some folk will take them, others just sneer at me! I get money from some places but I'm sure they're either not selling or just getting nicked in others. I don't expect to make a profit, but when you're a a cartoonist, it's incredible how many people just want you to do stuff for nothing. I can't think of many other skills that are treated in this slipshod way (even when one sends 3 reminders for payment, like that useless musician-guy who changed his bands' name AFTER I did the work - I've STILL to be paid)
I hope the pig poetry book takes off though!

Well, the pig poetry book seems to be on hold for the moment (damn!) and had to re-do some 'artistic differences' (i.e. lack of imagination on the publisher's part. Turns out he's retired) But at least a got paid for these ones promptly. As for that music tw*t, he now says he doesn't want them and he'll post them back. (Aye that'll be right) How offensive can you get? Bloody skinflint.

For want of a more forceful word he has treated me like excrement! All the worse because he's 'friends' with me. I got paid OK for the poetry book but I reallllllly hope that guy finds a publisher sooner or later! I need the exposure (oo-eerr)

Oh I'm really sorry to hear that "polite" guy is your friend, is indignant! And it is also sad, I remember when I had problems with some "friends" here, I felt sad and betrayed... I do understand how you feel I don't know why those things happen! Please, don't let this kind of things stop you from your work, you must continue!

Loudres is right. Don't ever give up, because you are an amazingly-talented person! I hope, one of these days, you get your big break. People are just ignorant and rude, and that's not your fault! So just keep your head high, and keep at it!

Shychick and Lourdes: Ta very much! At least folk like you actually appreciate the work and time involved in the 'type o' thing' I (and others here) do. Monkies like that 'Bano' obviously just don't 'get it'.
