The Count Duckula ep, 'Hunchbudgie of Notre Dame' is a parody of Hunchback of Notre Dame'. The classic novel was written by famous French writer *cough* Victor Hugo.
This ep starred French criminal bunglers Gaston and Peirre- who made their debut in this ep, and proved worthy of being added as regular guest-villians. We all know that the CH characters, Victor and Hugo- from the cartoon of the same name- were based on Gaston and Peirre, and their previous incarnation's personalities, habbits, and ocassional catchphrases would be greatly expanded and fully developed in the spin-off series. BUT, I'm thinking it might have that first ep with Gaston and Peirre which inspired the names for the 'bunglers in crime'. Victor Hugo... Victor and Hugo.
I dunno, not really worth mentioning, but just something kinda cool I thought of while watching that earlier. *shrugs*

Yes, I think that's definately the reason behind V&H's names. Another Gaston (Leroux) also wrote 'The Phantom Of The Opera' also set in Paris (and also the theme for another Duckula episode on the same VHS released ages ago.)
