Ok, this may sound like a dumb question... bu just how old is the Count? Ok, yes, I know he's many reincarnated many times over the centuries, but how exactly does the whole age thing work each time he is brought back to life? He is, more or less, a new Count of the Duckula dynasty altogether, waking up to a brand-new life and existance... a whole new individual, in other words. Ok... so that means when a new Count of Duckula is born, then their previous lives don't count, right? So, NOT counting being reincarnated each century, how old was Ducky-boos when he was brought back to life? I mean, he is often referred to as 'the young master', so I dunno, I'm assuming he would be in his early 20s in the series (at least in mortal years). And in a couple eps he mentioned himself at a younger age ("I still have that conjurer's outfit Uncle Bloodbath gave me for my 7th birthday" and "I was only 17-and-a-half, Nanny"). Taking what I have said into account, and also since one might assume that Duckula has no real memory of his past lives, then I am assuming Duckula was speaking of his current life. That brings me back to my original question- how old was Duckula- or any Count of the Duckulas- when they are re-born? Do they start their new existance at a very early age all over again each time, maybe as a young child or even an infant? I would say this is the case... oh, btw, further evidence of this is the painting of the baby Count Duckula III in 'No Sax'.
I dunno, am I making any sense?

Hey Shy, how can you read my mind? ;D I wanted to post about this theme today too!
About ages: Count Duckula is, in mortal years, 17 ½ at the beginning of the series. I think he is approx 23 at the ending. Igor is 600 (perhaps more!) years old and I think that Nanny is as old as he is. This brings another questions: what kind of creatures are these two? How do they manage to live so long? A long as I know, Igor drinks blood, but what about Nanny? Goosewing is in his forties for sure, 43?
I have always imagined that Duckula re-born in his teens because early aged vampires are not common. However, now that I have seen the cartoon again, I have changed my mind and I think that the current Count were re-born as a good natured, little child. That would explain why Nanny spoiles him so much!

What makes you so certain that Goosewing is forty three? It's funny because that's how old my characters, Percival is. Born February 25, 1964.

But vampires cannot grow... Do you remember the movie with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, from Anne Rice's novel? There is a young girl transformed into a vampire by them, and they argue because she is too young and she will rest a child for eternity. So I suppose that Duckula is fixed to the age in which he became a vampire...maybe the pictures on the wall are of some relatives...

I think that the current Count re-born at the same age that the first Duckula was when he became vampire for the first time in "The Rest is History". After all, this makes sense. Vampires in folklore can change and "grow" with time.
Rory: I guess that Goosewing is supposed to be old but I see him too strong for being that old. So I give him 43, I think saying that he is in his forties would be more accurately.

Loudres, Serenity, you both raise fair points, and they both make a lot of sense. (However, Serenity, that painting of Count Duckula III wasn't one of his relatives; it was, in fact, his third reincarnation; presumably around the age he was when he was brought back to life. This is because there was/is only one *Count* Duckula, that is to say, only one original line of Count Duckulas, and that's him. If it were one of his relatives, Igor surely would've said "So-and-So Duckula".)
Even though most vampires do not age, I think the Duckulas are a very special type of vampire. (I mean, after all, many of the Duckulas are completetly immune to the sunlight, right?) Personally, I think the whole 'aging' process comes from the once-a-century reincarnation ritual. I think one of the ingredients used is what allows each Count to be re-born at whatever age, and even that the age possibly differs; possibly according to an alternation of that particular ingredient to bring him back at the desired age. I don't know what the precise age THIS Duckula was brought back as, but the earliest age he actually mentioned was his 7th birthday (I *think*, I know it was some early age of childhood)... and since he did say "birthday", it's logical to assume that his Resurrection occured at an even earlier age.
I think the Duckulas, in short, are brought back at a certain age each time, and stop 'aging' at a certain point. With our Duckula, I personally think this is the oldest he's ever going to get.

I reckon he's in his mid twenties, possibly early thirties. I always assumed Nanny was mortal but it seems she's rather old too, but Igor seems to act more 'old'. I can't be the only one to have noticed that Nanny and Igor are basically Duckula's mum and dad!

Shy, your theory is fascinating! The counts of Duckula are special vampires, so it could be possible that they can become as old as they like. I was thinking about another movie, the Dracula by Coppola, and there the count is VERY old at the beginning, then he returns young when it is time to go to London to meet his ancient love... It would be nice to see the adventures of Baby Duckula! But how they decide the age in which they want to reincarnate?? Does the previous count tell Igor his last will at death's door? Or is it always Igor that decides everything??

Remember that Dracula (in the novel) was able to become younger in appearance when he became strong enough after consuming the adequate amounts of fresh blood. Other vampires are able to do the same I believe that Goosling destroyed the previous Count Duckula. I thought about this after watching closely the intro of the show. The scene takes place outside the Castle, early in the morning (I guess). The stake hit the Count through his heart and then he could turn into many centuries dust. That is why I think that Igor were very busy trying to save his Master, who was unable to spoke a word. Then Igor just let the black magic spell to decide the age of the new reincarnation. Well, that is what I think that could have happen.

That's probably mostly Nanny's fault. Nanny and Igor a basically Duckula's parents which gives the show a cute edge. Kind of Father Ted-ish. In fact the two shows are very similar in a lot of ways, maybe that's why I love them both.

I love Father Ted too, LOL!
I like to think Duckula is early 20's too...perhaps his original age is frozen while being in the "death" like state that he's been in many times throughout the centuries.
I think Goosewing is much older than 40's Lourdes, at least in his 50's or even 60's. Cartoons make older characters stronger and athletic than a real 60 year old would be, take Scrooge McDuck and Mr Krabs for example. Mind you, my mum is in her 40's and she's can be so absent minded sometimes I compare her to Nanny!

My mum is a cross between Nanny and Mrs. Doyle and she's proud of that. She breaks things and bashes into things too!
